Police Neutralise Cluster IEDs in Dikwa, Urge Vigilance Among Borno Residents

The Borno State Police Command has safely recovered and neutralised a cluster of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) discovered on a farmland in Dikwa Local Government Area.
The discovery, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, was made after a farmer, Babagana Kachalla, spotted a suspicious object buried in his farmland and immediately alerted security operatives.
Acting on the report, Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Naziruu Abdulmajid, swiftly deployed the Commander of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Base 13, Maiduguri, and his team to the area. Upon arrival, the farmland was cordoned off to prevent casualties and damage.
The EOD operatives identified the object as a cluster bomb unit measuring 2.2 metres in length and 30 centimetres in width. Daso explained that it was partially buried and covered with grass, potentially endangering residents and commuters.
He added that the team conducted an in-situ demolition of the device before safely extracting the cluster munitions. The entire operation was carried out without any casualties.
ASP Daso further urged community leaders to intensify sensitisation of residents and travellers on the dangers of IEDs. He stressed the need for vigilance and immediate reporting of suspicious objects or movements to security agencies.
“The safety of our communities depends on timely information and cooperation from the public,” he stated.
