POWA distributes food items to 100 police officers’ wives, widows in Borno

The Borno State chapter of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) has distributed palliatives to 100 police officers’ wives and widows.
According to the association, the distributed food items comprise 400 bags and cartons of rice and assorted pastas, including 100 gallons cooking oil.
Distributing the palliatives, over the on Friday to mark International Women’s Day (IWD), the Police Commissioner, Yusufu Lawan, disclosed: “Today’s event was to support and empower women to march forward by according priority to girl-child education and fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in communities.”

The police chief noted that this could secure their future, instead of the girls hawking in the streets with associated various risks.
On the roles of women in society, Chairperson of POWA, Hajiya Zara Ibrahim, said that investment in women will also promote and ensure the fulfilment of their fundamental rights in the various sectors of the economy.
The IWD themed: “Invest in women accelerates growth,” was also to fight GBV among girls and women in the state.
She, therefore, urged the women to fully participate in the commemoration of IWD at the state and local government levels.
