Project Nigeria to partner with NATCOM for the eradication of proliferation of small arms, light weapons in Nigeria
A non-governmental organization, Project Nigeria has said that all arrangement has been concluded to collaborate and partner with the National Commission for the Coordination and Control of Proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapon, NATCOM, to fight the menace of fire arms proliferation in Nigeria.
This was made known by the Director General, Hon. Dr. Maryam Yenusa Danjaki during a press briefing on Wednesday in Abuja.
She said; ‘’ Given the critical importance of security as a precondition for any meaningful development in any society, or, community, we have decided to partner with NATCOM in areas of its mandate for a collaborative effort towards achieving the desired objective of riding Nigeria of uncontrolled proliferation of light weapons that account for the primary source of banditry, insurgency and surge in sundry crimes.”

“The increasing waves of crime, especially, those related to insurgency and banditry, have continued to pose serious threat to peace with corresponding negative effects on development, which has become a source of serious concern to government and the people.
It is very clear that no serious development can take place in an atmosphere of insecurity, as we are witnessing today in Nigeria.”
“The issue of insecurity, must therefore be addressed before any community can experience development in all aspects of the economy,” Maryam Danjaki added.
In his speech, the Acting Director General of NATCOM, Otunba Adejare Adegbenro said his Commission is pleased to collaborate with Project Nigeria giving the fact that they both share same vision in line with the His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu vision in economic development and youth empowerment And also, with Traditional institutions across Nigeria and other stakeholders alike.
He stresses that it’s on records that about 1.6 billion worth of ammunitions has been smuggled into the country. And since inception of the concerns bothering on the proliferation of fire arms in Nigeria no one has been brought to book to serve as deterrent, and that in his tenure, he will ensure all hands are on deck for the smooth implementation of its mandate to eradicate these concerns.
Adegbenro further said that as part of the collaborative efforts to deliver on its mandate, NATCOM has given Project Nigeria a concession of 2000 slot for employment.
