The aide to Hon. Abdulkadiri Rahis representing Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) federal constituency at National Assembly, Bukar Tanda has celebrated the death of former Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau as a hero.
Tanda, who posted his statement on Facebook at the weekend said: “Shekau is an admirable ‘true hero’ who had the courage to take his own life.
“He rather not surrender to the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in last Wednesday’s bloody clash that claimed his life.”
He said Shekau lived the life of a hero and died a genuine hero.
According to him, Shekau blew up himself in such a way that not even traces of his corpse will be found.
Tanda’s comments on social media are surprising, coming amid constant accusations from the military, alleging that some residents sympathize with the Boko Haram terrorists.
Barely 24 hours, Tanda’s praise of Shekau’s death, led to his termination of appointment by Hon. Rahis.
The termination letter reads: “I wish to formally write and notify you of the termination of your appointment as my Legislative Aide forthwith.
“Your actions, utterances and opinions of recent are at variance with my interests and that of MMC federal constituency and All Progressive Congress (APC).
“The termination letter also serves as a disclaimer to any action or position you took or wish to take on any matter that may have the remotest connection with me as person or office.”
Since 2009, insurgency has killed 40,000 people with property worth $9.1 billion (N3.42 trillion) in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states.
Boko Haram has also abducted and raped women, rendering over 50,000 widows with converting over 51,000 children onto orphans.
The terrorists also displaced about two million people in Borno with the torching of many houses, schools, hospitals and other public structures that supply electricity and water.
