Rural Electrification: FG set to implement 5m Solar Home System

The Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman has said Federal Government is committed to implementing the 5 million Solar home system through the Economic Sustainability Plan a project targeting mostly the rural communities.

Mammam stated this on Sunday while speaking with Journalists shortly after arriving for a meet with Youth groups and other key stakeholders in Jalingo.

He said that plans to kickstart the projects are in top gear and that the project is part of the commitment of President Buhari’s focus on lifting 100 million people out of poverty within 10 years.

The minister also stated that the President’s directive on mass metering programs for the power sector which has already started across the country is another avenue for the youths to benefit.

He said, from the reports he received so far, the youths are taking up opportunities in this aspect as well as in renewable energy.

Mammam maintained that, it is another way the government will be empowering young Nigerians as the local assembly, installation, and maintenance of these meters is largely handled by the Nigerian industrious youths.

According to him, the program has begun with a target for one million meter installations at least by December, saying that the Central Bank of Nigeria is supporting local firms and Meter Asset Providers on the financing and urged the youths to take advantage of it.

Mammam further urged the youths to be vigilant and resist and attempt by some people to use them to incite violence for their sinister motive.

He, therefore, noted that the Federal Government was tailoring more programs for the youths through the Siemens Presidential Power Initiative and in building capacity on renewable energy.
