Senator Rochas Okorocha representing imo west in the National Assembly on Saturday called on the Federal Government, state and local governments to integrate the almajiris system of education to formal education in the country.
Okorocha made the call in an interview with journalists shortly after he received an award from Tijjaniyya faithful at Sheik Dahiru Bauchi annual weeklong Malud as Garkuwan Almajirai (defendant of almajiris) in Bauchi.
He said the best way to address the almajiri issue is for the government to accept the fact that these almajiris are our children.
“Once we accept that fact, then we have done 50 per cent of the job and then we have to think about how to combine this school system, the Arabic schools, with conventional schools and empowerment.
“ If they reach the age that they should go to farm there must be something they can do because
“I don’t think that there is anybody created by God that is useless. It is only when there is no idea that people look useless but there is no useless person in this world.
Okorocha, who is the senator representing Imo west, said the award was given to him out of his passionate appeal that the lives of the almajiris should be made better in this country.
He called on all and sundry, the rich and the government to see what they can do to help the situation and to see how we can fight poverty together.
“Stop blaming the children and making them guilty of offences they didn’t commit because they did not bring themselves to this world.
“If the ordinary birds can take care of their children why can’t humans take care of our children,” Okorocha said.
Also speaking, Sheik Dahiru Bauchi the Leader of Tijjaniyya Faithfuls said the combined Malud was organized to honour a servant of God who is the Grand Son of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) Sheikh Ahmadu Tijjani and Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass
“The two gentlemen dedicated their life towards the services of Islam and Muslims in the world.
“Whoever did a Good thing should be commended and remembered for the two Scholars’ lives and their exemplary life which is filled with fear of God.
He said the celebration also show the light and strength of Islam across the globe.
Bauchi said the programme was to improve relationships among Tijjaniyyah adherents across the globe and immortalize the late Islamic Scholars.
“The essence of the celebration is to further cement the existing mutual relationship of the adherents of Sheikh Ahmadu Tijjani all over the world,
“To immortalize and commemorate the legacy and teachings of the two Sheikhs and to pray for peaceful co-existence of the entire nation”, he said.
