Sports: SWAN elects new leaders in Taraba

The Deputy National President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Alhaji Sadiq Moyoyo has charged the newly elected officials of the association in Taraba state to leave above board by carrying everyone along in the discharge of their responsibility.

Moyoyo who administered oath of office for the newly elected state officials on Saturday at the Nuj Press Centre Jalingo described the election as free, fair and credible.

He urged the new EXCOs to operate an open door policy, adding that they are expected to woe other journalists in the state to register with the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) for the development of sports in the state.

Alhaji Sadiq Moyoyo also advised the new executives particularly Chairman and Secretary to be committed in participating in all National engagements, so that Taraba state will not be left behind has been done by the immediate past administration.

The National Deputy President however, warned the new EXCOs against middling into the crisis between the National bodies of Nuj and SWAN, saying that the matter is even dying naturally.

“As far as am concern, there is no crisis between the National bodies of Nuj and SWAN because it is just a politics and it is even dying naturally, so you people should shun discussing the matter at all” Moyoyo warned.

He therefore, commended the outgone EXCOs under the chairmanship of Alhaji Kabiru Usman Jalingo for a job well done in the development of SWAN in Taraba state.

“I cannot remember when Kabiru missed a National engagement, we always go together for every National engagement i being a National officer, because he took over the chairnmaship from me after my two terms and i moved to the National level as Vice President and now the Deputy President, so i encourage you especially the Chairman and Secretary to be attending National activity,” Moyoyo emphasized.

Chairman of the electoral committee, Comrade Charles Akpeji declared all the positions as unopposed where Joachim Dangana Bandawa of Radio Taraba was elected as Chairman, Sani Sulaiman of FRCN from the Correspondents’ chapel as Secretary and Abdulbasir Sulaiman of TSBS as Vice Chairman.

Others are Miss Linder Gwana also from TSBS as Treasurer and Financial Secretary goes to Kabiru Garba Bala still from TSBS chapel, while Ahmad Sanya mile 6 of NTA chapel clinched the position of Welfare Officer.

In his remark, the outgone Chairman, Alhaji Kabiru Usman Jalingo thanked the Deputy President for his mentorship and numerous support accorded him toward the successes recorded during his tenure as well as appreciated the Nuj Taraba state Council for their cooperation.

He also thanked the electoral committee under the chairmanship of Mr. Charles Akpeji for conducting a peaceful, rancor free election and wished the new EXCOs a successful tenure.

In his speech, the newly elected Chairman, Comrade Joachim Dangana Bandawa of TSBS chapel, appreciated the Deputy National President of SWAN, the immediate past administration and the electoral committee as well as all members of the association for their wonderful support and cooperation.

He promised to operate an open door policy and to carry everyone along with a view to move Taraba SWAN to a greater heights and urged members to be committed in promoting sports activities in the state, while he also urged both government and non-governmental organizations as well as philanthropists to invest more in sports as it is a tool for uniting the youths in the society.

High points of the event was presentation of certificate of returns to the elected officials by the National Deputy President, Alhaji Sadiq Moyoyo.
