Confirming the incident Friday in Maiduguri, a military source told The Guardian that two soldiers were also abducted by the terrorists and fled towards the Lake Chad region.
“Our troops were travelling along the road, when their convoy came under fierce attacks from both sides,” he said; stating that the soldiers were returning from one of the Super Camps in northern Borno state.
On how the troops were killed, he said: “The ISWAP terrorists must have planted the mines over the night, with information that the troops will use the road by morning.
“An officer believed to be their unit commander, was also killed in the attack.”
He added that some of the soldiers also sustained injuries and evacuated to a military facility in Maiduguri for treatment.
