The Oriental Energy Resources (OER) has unfolded the University Scholarship Award (USAD) scheme for 200-level students in the country.

While announcing the commencement of scheme Tuesday in Maiduguri, the Managing Director of OER, Mustapha Indimi disclosed that the 2021/22 scholarships are for the indigent students of Akwa Ibom.

He said the USAD scheme is part of the oil firm’s social investment initiatives on the development of human and capital resources.

According to him, the scheme is open to only 200-level students undertaking undergraduate studies in any recognized university in the country.

“Applications are expected to be completed and submitted online through the scholarship application portal at www.oriental-er.com from September 1-30, 2021.” he said.

Speaking on the scholarship scheme, he said that OER is committed to sustainable human capital development in areas of the firm’s operations.

“Our focus is on social investments in education, community health and enterprise development that meet the needs of our stakeholders,” he said; adding that the university scholarship scheme is one of such interventions in the state.

Providing more information on the process, Dr. Uwem Ite, The Head of Community Relations, Dr. Uwem Ite also said that shortlisted candidates will be invited for an aptitude test after which finalists will be selected for the scholarships.

He noted that the awards of scholarships are based on the test results as well as other academic indices submitted by applicants.

“We’ll continue to contribute meaningfully to the education sector in the state,” he said.

He added that since 2009; about 1,500 students across the country have benefited from the scholarship scheme.

He said that the social investments in healthcare and empowerment programmes were to support social development efforts of the state.

Other initiatives on the development of education; include the equipping of Youths Empowerment Centre last month and Mbo Youths Empowerment Foundation headed by the paramount ruler of Mbo Council.
