Troops Capture 10 Suspected Terrorists, Kidnapper Informants in Taraba
Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have arrested 10 suspects, including eight Boko Haram members and two female informants connected to a kidnapping syndicate in Taraba State.
According to a statement by Capt. Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, the arrests were made following a raid on September 29, 2024, targeting the residence of Tukura Abdul-Kareem, a terrorist leader in the Sunkani Ward of Ardo-Kola Local Government Area.
The operation led to the capture of Abdul-Kareem and seven others who had traveled from various states to join the terrorist cell. Investigations revealed that the suspects were planning to establish a camp in Taraba to carry out Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure.
Abdul-Kareem confessed that he joined Boko Haram alongside his brother, Adamu Abdul-Kareem, who remains at large with other terrorists in an undisclosed location. Recovered items included nine mobile phones, identity cards, suspected marijuana, and other illegal substances.
In a separate operation on September 30, 2024, troops arrested two female informants linked to a high-profile kidnapping syndicate in Chachanji village, Takum Local Government Area. The informants, identified as Patience Tersoo and Joy Emmanuel, were allegedly providing information to a notorious criminal named Anyogo and his gang. They are believed to be Anyogo’s wife and sister, respectively.
Items recovered from the two informants included a mobile phone, a Super Core motorcycle, and a calabash.
