Troops kill 40 terrorists in Borno State

Tada Jutha, Maiduguri

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have killed 40 Boko Haram terrorists in Kawuri village of Borno state.

Kawuri is 60 kilometres east of Maiduguri, and attacked severally by insurgents between 2014 and 2019.

Confirming the neutralization Monday in Maiduguri, the Acting General Officer Commanding, 7 Division, Nigerian Army, Brig-Gen. Abdulwahab Eyitayo commended the troops for protecting Kawuri from being overrun by insurgents.

Eyitayo, who was excited over the decimation of dozens of terrorists, disclosed: “Following credible intelligence, our troops have bombarded a mass gathering of Boko Haram fighters at Kawuri village in the Konduga Local Government Area of the state.”

He said that the terrorists were planning to execute coordinated attacks on Maiduguri metropolis and its environs.

According to him, the troops quickly launched massive artillery bombardments of Boko Haram camps, north of Sambisa Forest.

An intelligence military officer, also told The Guardian yesterday that the pre-emptive strikes were undertaken after obtaining intelligence on the movements of terrorists in the Konduga/Forest axis.

“We also intercepted terrorists’ communication, before striking them along with their camps located north fringe of the forest,” he said.

Continuing, he added: “Besides credible information from the people on the movements of terrorists, we were able to intercept their communication and devilish plans to attack Maiduguri and other areas of the state.

“Their evil plans were thwarted when the Nigerian Army launched an Artillery gun bombardment within the general area.”

He said the ground troops strike the mass gathering of the terrorists killing at least 40 of them, while others escaped with gunshot wounds towards the forest.
