Troops provide enabling environment to farmers, businessmen in Northeast- Gen Musa

The Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), Maj-Gen. Christopher Musa has said that troops of the Nigerian Army are unrelenting in the restoration of peace in the Maiduguri metropolis of Borno State.

According to him, the gradual restoration of peace has reached other parts of the Northeast, including insurgency affected states of Adamawa and Yobe.

The Commander in a live interview Saturday on 108 FM, Radio Lafiya Dole in Maiduguri; disclosed: “Our men recently provided an enabling environment for farmers to return to farmlands and business outfits to thrive,” noting that schools that were shut are reopened to resume academic sessions.

General Musa, who assumed office at the Theatre Command; June 18, 2021 also said that the Army wants the synergy with the civil populace, the military and paramilitary to join hands and make sure that the counter-insurgency operations succeeded

“I think that is one; for the military and other security agencies to end terrorism in insurgency affected states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe,” he said.

On the state of military operation, he said: “It’s going on smoothly as we can see that Maiduguri is getting more vibrant and more activities are coming in and now.

“With the setting of the rainy season; we are encouraging people to go back to their farms,” warning that there would be a looming famine in IDP camps and host communities.

Besides the scarcity of food, he said that the level of poverty could continue to rise in the Northeast.

According to him; “A hungry man is an angry man and we don’t want people to be angry.

He noted that angry persons could commit anything when they are hungry for over a decade in camps and host communities.

Continuing, he added: “We’re providing that avenue for people to go back to their farms, markets to thrive and schools to resume.

“The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) I think resumed yesterday and this is to show people that the confidence is gradually being restored.

“It is not yet a who, but we are working towards it and we will continue to put in our best to ensure that we provide an environment for everybody to go about lawful businesses.

On highway reduction of checkpoints, he said: “Initially; the number of checkpoints between Maiduguri and Damaturu were gradually reduced.

“Even within the metropolis before; there used to be checkpoints almost everywhere. But you can see that it has eased up gradually,” assuring that the remaining ones are just a matter of time.

The General declared that the people will not see more of the troops along the streets and communities in the region.

According to him the civil authority comprising the police, immigration, customs are the ones that will continue to protect people’s lives and property.

“Once we do that to get to that level; you will still see us gradually,” he said.

He said there is now a complete synergy between the Army, Air Force, Navy and the Police, which is yielding success in the counter-terrorism operations.
