He said that the State Government and five others in the region affected by the 12-year insurgency have been supported by the UN agencies to make life much easier for IDPs.
According to him, the EU initially supported the state government with $50 million (N23.5 billion).
“The first call for support in the Northeast was the receipt of over $900 million,” he said, while the second and subsequent ones stood at $770 million, $600 million, $400 million and $300 million respectively.
Besides, he added: “These are official figures that we received directly from the donor basket,” noting that this excludes funds provided by the EU.
He further disclosed that the EU partners also supported the state government with $120 million through partners and other development agencies.
Responding, Schmake said his intention is to build on the successes of the former humanitarian coordinator, Edward Kallon.
“I’m not coming with a new agenda,” he said; but to continue the good relationship and be guided by His Excellency, on what we can do to improve.
He explained that the purpose of the UN is to support both the federal and state governments for the benefits of the people.
“This is our common agenda,” he said, as the UN needs to do what is best for the people of Borno to overcome their dependency on aid.
He noted that his will make people’s life worth living in the liberated communities.
