The Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru has said that troops are committed with a focus on the entire counter-insurgency operations in the Northeast.
According to him, the ongoing military operations in Sambisa Forest and the Lake Chad region are the total annihilation of Boko Haram terrorists from Nigeria.
Attahiru spoke Thursday at the Military Command and Control Centre, Maiduguri; while fielding questions from journalists during a visit of Army formations in Borno and Yobe states.
“Today’s visit is the constant touch with troops and their commanders in the front lines; is important for every military operation; especially in the counter-insurgency environment.”
He said that the visit is to reassure the troops to hear from them if they do have issues to discuss.
He noted that most of the operational issues border on logistics and deployment of troops.
He added that President Muhammadu Buhari is also aware of their requirements for executing the war to a logical conclusion.
While speaking on recent attacks in Damasak, Dikwa, Mainok, Gwoza, and Geidam, he said: “In a military operation it is a duel.
“We’ve defeated Boko Haram terrorists severally if for one time they came and we lose certain equipment; even though they were never defeated.”
He assured that; “We’ll overcome notwithstanding whatever has happened. We will take on Boko Haram decisively,”
According to him, the Army are committed to counter-terrorism operations to end the war in region.
