Yobe hosts Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum on security. sustainable development

The Yobe State Government is to host the Lake Chad Basin. Governors’ Forum (LCBGF) on security and sustainable development in the insurgency-affected region.
According to the forum, the three-day summit, organised by the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC). in collaboration with the African Union Commission (AUC), and the UNDP will attract about 500 participants from Chad, Cameroon, Niger, and Nigeria.
The LCBC Executive Secretary, Amb. Mamman Nuhro, on Thursday, in Damaturu disclosed: “The forum provides a critical platform for humanitarian, development, and peace actors to converge in strategising concrete plans to stabilise the region,” adding that the forum will also advance the recovery process for long-term development and economic growth.
The summit theme: “Rebuilding the Lake Chad Basin: Consolidating gains, commitment to peace, cross-border cooperation, and security and Sustainable Development for a Resilient Community,” was to promote sustainable development, peace, and security in the region.
The Lake Chad Basin, comprising four countries, has faced security challenges, including 15-year Boko Haram insurgency, massive displacement of persons, and the destruction of many infrastructural facilities.
Nuhro continued: “The forum seeks to address these critical issues through enhanced regional cooperation and stabilisation to achieve sustainable development and economic growth.” Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, also assured of his commitment to the success of the three-day summit, slated for January 29-31, 2025, at the Indimi International Conference Centre, Maiduguri.
