Yobe to spend N9.41 billion on empowerment materials, schools

The Yobe State Executive Council has earmarked N9.41 billion for the procurement of empowerment equipment and materials with the construction of roads and schools in the state.
The Technical College and three secondary schools are sited at Damagum, Ngelzarma, Gashua, and Damaturu, the state capital.
Unveiling the eight capital projects, over the weekend in Damaturu, the Commissioner of Information, Mohammed Lamin, disclosed: “Today, the Council approved a contract for the procurement of empowerment equipment and materials at N3.13 billion.”

He said that N2.4 billion was also approved for the constructions and renovations of Government Science Technical College, Damagum, Government Girls College, Damaturu and two secondary schools in Ngelzarma and Damaturu.
According to him, the eight capital projects were earmarked based on the impact on the living conditions of students to secure their educational future.
Besides, he added: “We consider additional works on the completion of Potiskum transit trailers’ park at the cost of N1.44 billion,” stating that 250 double deck beds and 500 mattresses are to be procured for distribution at N240 million.
Other approvals made by the Council include the payments of N883.35 million tuition fees of 763 students at the Nigerian Tulip International College.
He added that medical equipment will also be procured at N478.24 million for distribution to hospitals and healthcare centres across the state.
According to him, the construction of a kilometre access road with concrete drainage will also cost N311 million to complete.
“Rehabilitation works has been awarded on the existing roads of the new Maternal and Child complex of Yobe State Teaching Hospital, Damaturu,” he said.
Continued; “The council approved N294.9 million for the construction of a triple box cell culvert and an earth road,” adding that rehabilitation of failed eroded portions of Dogon Kuka-Daura road in Fune Council will be completed next year.
The commissioner said that N274.2 million was earmarked for the construction of earth work along the Kayayya road in Gaidam Council, a border community with Niger.
