Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has called for a one-day prayer and fasting for lasting peace to reign in the 27 local government areas of the state.
Zulum made the call in Maiduguri in a statewide broadcast to all faiths to “pray and fast” for God’s intervention for peace to reign in the state and country.
The State Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Apostle Joshua Akeredolu Micheal, in a statement in Maiduguri, said, “In solidarity to the governor’s call (Joel 2:1), the State CAN under the leadership of Reverend John Bogna Bakeni urged brethren to come and seek the face of God over the state.
He stated that this is particularly due to the rising rates of terrorism and killing within the state and country.
The Reverend also commits the souls of gallant troops, security personnel and other individuals that lost their lives during the 16-year Boko Haram insurgency in the state, stating, “We pray for God to comfort and console their families,” said Bakeni.
Quoting Leviticus 26:6, “I will grant peace in the land, and you will lie down, and no one will make you afraid.
“I will remove wild beasts from the land, and the sword will not pass through your country.” He slated the one-day prayers and fasting for tomorrow, Monday, at the First Baptist Church, opposite the Musa Usman Secretariat complex, Maiduguri, at 3:00 p.m.
Reverend Bakeni also urged all the leaders of churches to announce the urgent and important prayer and fasting programme for all members to attend.
He added that God in his infinite mercy shall heal the state and the country through Christ our Lord.
