Zulum Distributes 100 Trucks of Grains to Ngala Communities
Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has commenced the distribution of 100 trucks of grains donated by President Bola Tinubu to residents of Ngala Local Government Area. The distribution, which began on Monday, targeted communities in Gamboru, Ngala, and surrounding areas that have faced severe food shortages due to heavy rains and flooding over the past four months.
The distributed grains, including maize, sorghum, and millet, were prioritized for the most vulnerable households. Speaking during the flag-off, Governor Zulum emphasized the critical need to restore food supply to the affected communities.
“This morning, we flagged off the distribution of 100 trucks of assorted grains to communities in Ngala Local Government. This town has been completely cut off from the rest of the country for about four months due to heavy rainfall and flooding,” Zulum said.
He further explained that the initiative was aimed at alleviating the hardships caused by disrupted food supplies.
The governor expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and federal agencies for their support in ensuring food sufficiency across the state.
“All of the food items we shared today were donated to us by President Tinubu. In addition, the federal government has provided 100 trucks of rice for victims of the Maiduguri flood disaster,” he noted.
Governor Zulum also highlighted his administration’s efforts to transition from food distribution to sustainable agricultural solutions.
“We are gradually phasing out food distribution by focusing on irrigation projects in resettled communities. Medium- and long-term structures have been established to enable year-round farming, especially in Ngala Local Government,” he added.
The initiative underscores the state government’s commitment to addressing immediate food crises while implementing long-term measures to enhance food security.
