Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has donated the sum of N100 million to support 88 injured soldiers and the families of troops who lost their lives in the fight against insurgency in the Northeast.
The announcement was made during a Sallah Luncheon hosted by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Olufemi Oloyede, at Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri.
Governor Zulum praised the bravery and sacrifice of the soldiers, noting that those who died in service paid the ultimate price to defend the lives, property, and territorial integrity of Nigeria.
He also expressed support for the Federal Government’s forest guards initiative and emphasized the need for stronger cooperation among security agencies to dismantle networks of terrorist informants, whom he described as even more dangerous than the insurgents themselves.
Under the disbursement plan, each injured soldier will receive N500,000, while the remaining N56 million will be allocated to families of the fallen personnel to help with daily expenses and family welfare.
Maj-Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, highlighted recent achievements in counter-terrorism operations, reporting that over 100 insurgents were killed the previous week, including at least 12 senior Boko Haram and ISWAP commanders in areas such as Marte, Izge, and Bitta.
Meanwhile, Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, disclosed enhancements in aerial intelligence gathering over Sambisa Forest and the Lake Chad region.
He stated that with the induction of Super Tucano aircraft, the Nigerian Air Force now has greater capacity to conduct night operations and target insurgent hideouts.
