Zulum establishes the Livestock and Fisheries Development Ministry to meet Borno food needs, among others

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has established the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries Development (MILFD) to meet the food requirements of people in the state.
According to him, the distribution of food items to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in camps and host communities cannot be sustained by the state government.
Zulum unveiled the new ministry yesterday (Tuesday) in Maiduguri while swearing in two commissioners for the Ministries of Finance and Economic Development and Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement (RRR), Isa Halidu and Umar Lawan Dalorima, respectively.
“The Deputy Governor, Usman Kadafur, will oversee the newly established Ministry to overcome the challenges of food security in the state,” he said, noting that the state government could not sustain the continuous feeding of IDP returnees with regular distribution of food items and other relief materials.
He stated that the “harnessing and development” of livestock and fisheries resources by the new ministry could also enable farmers to export meat, skin, and hides to earn foreign exchange.
Zulum also pledged to introduce faming in schools, where the pupils and students could feed themselves, including their principals, head teachers, and teachers.
Additionally, he noted that the administration is to discontinue depending on the monthly Federation Accounts Allocations (FAA) to execute the various projects and programs in the state.
“You’re to report regularly to your respective duty posts in service delivery,” he said, adding that they are to do their work effectively to ensure accountability and transparency by the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
He, therefore, charged the commissioners to perform their duties with diligence without any fear or favour while rendering services to the people.
