Zulum Extends Food Relief Distribution for Flood Victims by 4 Weeks
Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has approved a four-week extension for the state’s Flood Disaster Relief Disbursement Committee to continue distributing food items to flood victims.
Malam Bukar Tijani, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), announced this on Thursday in Maiduguri. The extension comes in response to severe floods that resulted in loss of lives, and widespread damage to properties and livelihoods in Maiduguri and nearby communities.
Tijani explained that the committee was initially scheduled to conclude its distribution this week. However, the extension will allow for a comprehensive assessment of the affected population to ensure proper support.
“The governor has reviewed the committee’s interim report and, given the progress so far, directed an additional four weeks to complete the process and ensure no victim is left out,” said Tijani.
He emphasized that the relief efforts are part of a larger initiative by the Borno State government aimed at supporting flood victims and rebuilding affected communities.
According to Tijani, the committee has made significant progress but requires more time to fully reach all those in need. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing adequate assistance to those impacted by the disaster.
The reports gathered that the floods submerged Maiduguri on Sept. 9, following the collapse of spillways at the Alau dam.
