Zulum inaugurates Ngarannam Livestock Ranch Settlement in Borno

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has inaugurated the Ngarannam Livestock Ranch Settlement (NLRS) for communities affected by Boko Haram insurgency.
Governor Babagana Umara Zulum who discussed while commissioning the ranch along Maiduguru-Dikwa road over the weekend said the ranch is a four-square kilometre land along. .
“The NLRS project comprises a housing estate for 461 normadic families, roads, a school, health, veterinary, and the state-of-art dairy and beef rocessing centres.”
He said that other facilities included pasture development and milk collection centres, markets, an earth dam, and a security post to ensure safety of pastoralists and their livestock.
Impressed with Zulum’s first ranch in the country, the former Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Co-Chair of the Presidential Livestock Reforms Committee (PLRC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, commended Zulum for establishing a cattle ranch that is first of it’s kind in the country.
He said: “I witnessed today something I had never seen in our country, Nigeria. We’ve seen today the vision of a leader, the passion and commitment to what clearly help drive economic growth and development.”
Besides the drive for development, he noted that the development of livestock, will also create job opportunities and livelihoods to the people.
Jega, therefore, urged Zulum to sustain the leadership and commitment in the development of the livestock sector.
He continued; “The establishment of cattle ranches in the country will not only ensure food security, but overcome the challenges of protecting of protecting people’s lives and property.”

The Deputy Governor, Usman Kadafur, who oversees the state’s Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries Development, disclosed that besides the inaugurated Ngarannam ranch, the Gubio and Rumirgo ranches in north and south senatorial districts, have reached 90 percent completion by the contractors for commission this year.
