2023: Gen. IBM Haruna asks for harmony, equity, justice
By Matthew Atungwu
Major-General Ibrahim Malgwi Haruna (rtd), a founding member of the Nigeria Military School Zaria, has called for unity, equity, and justice for the benefit of all Nigerians ahead of the country’s general elections in 2023.
Gen. Haruna stated that authority belongs to God in an exclusive interview with OURNIGERIA NEWS MAGAZINE on Monday in Abuja.
He said, “Power descends from God. Power is allocated and given to whoever God chooses. That is my own faith and belief. It is not in anybody’s position to determine but God alone.”
The retired general responded that people were motivated by their own interests, logics, and perceptions when asked about his opinion on the distribution of power among the six geopolitical regions of the nation.

Gen Haruna said, “Before you start talking about distributing power between north and south, east and west, you have to consider what constitutes the east and west, north and south in the context of power.”
“In this case, I suppose people are determined in their own interest. They have their own logics and perception and what I’m seeking is unity, justice and equity.”
According to him, rotation of power should be on the basis of competence, ability and capacity.
“I will not share power among regions in a group of people that have over 300 tribes and give superiority to just three or four and then the others are subjugated not to be near where they can even attest to power on a criteria that is based on those who have position of authority and supremacy. I don’t believe in the use of such criteria.”
