Borno State Flood Relief Co-Chairman, Prof. Ibrahim Umara Gudumbali, has called on flood-affected communities to stay vigilant during cleanup efforts, warning that explosive may have been carried in by floodwaters.
The warning follows a massive explosion this morning in the Gwange area. The explosion was triggered while residents were clearing debris and evacuating large amounts of sand deposited by the floods into their homes.
Prof. Umara urged community members to exercise extreme caution while cleaning their homes and surroundings, advising them to stay alert for any suspicious objects. He emphasized the need for families in affected areas to prioritize safety during the post-flood cleanup process.
In his warning, Prof. Umara strongly advised residents against touching or moving any unfamiliar objects found while clearing debris. He stressed that these objects could be dangerous and should be reported immediately to the authorities.
While confirming the explosion in Gwange, Prof. Umara did not provide details regarding casualties or injuries but urged the public to remain cautious and report any unusual findings to local officials for proper action.
