Buratai Hails Awardees, Praises Jigawa Governor at OurNigeria Awards
Former Chief of Army Staff and ex-Nigerian Ambassador to Benin, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai (Rtd), has congratulated recipients of the OurNigeria Awards 2024, affirming that their recognitions were well deserved.
Speaking at the event themed “Nigeria Rising: Celebrating Excellence, Charting the Future”, Buratai expressed optimism about the nation’s progress, stating, “Nigeria will surely rise.” He commended the OurNigeria News Magazine Editorial Board, led by Dr. A.K. Peters, for their rigorous selection of honorees.
Jigawa State Governor Mallam Umar Namadi was awarded Governor of the Year/Best Governor in Grassroots Development for his efforts in transforming the state. Buratai praised Namadi’s leadership, highlighting Jigawa’s improved road network as proof of his commitment to development.
The retired general also lauded Senator Abdulazeez Yar’adua, Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Nigerian Army, who was named Legislator of the Year. Describing him as a “rising star,” Buratai emphasized the nation’s high expectations from him.
Additionally, Buratai commended Nigeria’s service chiefs for their sustained counterterrorism efforts, reaffirming that national security remains key to the country’s growth. Addressing young officers and Nigerian youths, he urged them to stay hopeful, assuring them of a brighter future ahead.
