FAKE CHARITY FOILED: 23 Brigade Yola Exposes Phoney “NAOWA Trek” Scam
In a shocking revelation, the 23 Brigade in Yola uncovers a deceitful plot behind the widely publicised 10-kilometre trek supposedly celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA).
Lieutenant Princewill Odoemenam, Acting Assistant Director and Public Relations Officer of 23 Brigade, revealed the fraudulent scheme in a stern press statement on Wednesday.
The statement strongly refutes the authenticity of the event, denouncing the existence of a commandant named AB Gofai and discrediting Captain Jacub BD, who was claimed to have a role within the Brigade.
The Brigade also cautioned the public against responding to dubious calls for advertising and sponsorship payments through Firstmonie Wallet and Palmpay account number 8132843616.
“We categorically distance ourselves from this fraudulent advertisement and advise the general public to exercise caution and refrain from engaging with any dubious calls for advertising or sponsorship for the aforementioned fake event,” emphasised the Brigade.
“Amid a surge in online fraud targeting charitable causes, the statement underscored the Nigerian Army’s commitment to combating such issues and urged the public to promptly report suspicious activities. Citizens were cautioned to verify the legitimacy of organisations before making donations or sponsoring events, emphasising the avoidance of payments through unconventional channels.
The Brigade stressed the significance of staying vigilant and informed, highlighting the need to report potential scams to the appropriate authorities. The exposed “NAOWA Trek” in Yola serves as a stark reminder of the importance of thorough verification to safeguard against falling prey to fraudulent schemes.
