Kebbi Government Distributes Zakkat to 1,277 Vulnerable Citizens

In a significant move to support the less privileged, the Kebbi State Zakkat and Sadaqat Collection and Distribution Board has disbursed ₦20,000 each to 1,277 vulnerable individuals across the 21 local government areas of the state.
Flagging off the distribution at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi, Deputy Governor Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida underscored the importance of Zakkat as a pillar of Islam. He warned that neglecting this obligation could lead to financial decline and urged wealthy individuals to pay their Zakkat through the State Zakkat Board, emphasizing that it purifies wealth and provides for the needy. He further revealed that Governor Nasir Idris has approved ₦500,000 for local government Zakkat committees to facilitate the transportation of patients from rural areas to hospitals for medical care.
Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Arch. Sani Aliyu, commended the governor for establishing the Ministry for Religious Affairs and reviving the State Zakkat and Preaching Boards. Sheikh Lauwali Maidoki, Deputy President of the World Zakkat Forum and Chairman of the Sokoto State Zakkat and Sadaqa Board, also praised the governor for revitalizing the State Zakkat Committee. He stressed that giving Zakkat is not just an act of charity but a compulsory duty in Islam, highlighting its role in alleviating poverty.
The Chairman of the Kebbi State Zakkat and Sadaqa Board, Sheikh Umar Isah Magaji, lauded the governor’s efforts and disclosed that Governor Nasir Idris donated ₦30 million to the cause. Deputy Governor Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida contributed ₦5 million, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu gave ₦10 million, while Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero supported the initiative with 100 bags of 50kg rice.
The renewed focus on Zakkat distribution reflects the Kebbi State Government’s commitment to improving the welfare of its citizens, ensuring that financial aid reaches those who need it most.
