The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has commissioned multiple infrastructural projects on Friday, July 5, 2024, at the Maxwell Khobe Cantonment in Jos, Plateau State, as part of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL).
The projects, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and troop welfare, include:
A remodelled Headquarters 3 Division complex entrance, car porch, fountain, and reception, providing a modern and conducive working environment for personnel.
A 2,000 capacity 3 Division sports complex pavilion, designed to promote physical fitness and teamwork among soldiers.
Two blocks of 30 Corporal and below Quarters, offering comfortable accommodation for personnel and their families.
A 3 Division Garrison Regimental Sergeants Major (RSM) house, serving as a residence for the RSM who is a symbol of leadership and mentorship in the Nigerian Army.
Commissioning the projects, General Lagbaja stated that they will boost the living conditions and training capabilities of soldiers in the cantonment. He commended the Nigerian Army Engineers, NA Special projects, and other stakeholders for their relentless efforts in completing the projects on time while maintaining best practices.
The Army Chief emphasized the Nigerian Army’s commitment to investing in its personnel and infrastructure, praising the troops for their commitment and sacrifices. He pledged more infrastructural development projects in all NA Barracks, demonstrating the Army’s dedication to its personnel’s welfare and operational excellence.
In a related event, a golf tournament was held at the Rhino Golf Course, with Lieutenant General Lamidi Adeosun (Rtd) and other dignitaries in attendance. The tournament aimed to promote physical fitness and encourage personnel to embrace golfing for their well-being and duty performance.
Lieutenant General Lamidi Adeosun (Rtd) described golf as a recreational game that exposes individuality and collective desire for victory. He emphasized that a physically fit individual is a guarantee for victory in protecting Nigerians. The tournament fostered camaraderie and esprit de corps among participants, showcasing the Army’s commitment to physical fitness and teamwork.
The high point of the event was the presentation of prizes to the winners and souvenirs to guests, recognizing excellence and dedication to duty.
