In a significant blow to Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents, troops of Sector 3 of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) successfully carried out a covert operation on July 8, 2024, targeting a terrorist hideout in Kwatan Dowoshi, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
In a statement, Chief of Military Public Information Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi said the operation resulted in the neutralization of two Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters and the destruction of their hideout. Troops also recovered several items, including seven AK-47 rifle magazines, 148 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, four magazine carriers, and 172 tax/levy receipts for farmers and fishermen.
In addition, two Baofeng radios and a large quantity of assorted drugs were seized. This significant haul of weapons and supplies will undoubtedly disrupt the terrorist group’s ability to carry out attacks in the region.
In a separate development, five Boko Haram/ISWAP members surrendered to troops of Task Force Wulgo, comprising combined Cameroonian and Nigerian forces, on July 11, 2024. The surrendering individuals, who emerged from Tunbouma Village and Kutungulla Village in Marte Local Government Area of Borno State, are currently undergoing further investigation.
The Force Commander, Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali, commended the troops of Sector 3, Task Force Wulgo, and the hybrid forces for their bravery and called on other remaining terrorists to lay down their arms and surrender.
This operation is a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to rid the region of terrorist elements and restore peace and stability to the affected communities. The MNJTF remains committed to its mission to defeat Boko Haram/ISWAP and ensure the safety and security of the people in the region.
