In a significant breakthrough in the fight against terrorism, troops of Operation Lake Sanity 2 have successfully destroyed terrorist camps on the Lake Chad Basin, killing many insurgents and forcing others to flee.
The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) announced the achievement in a statement released on July 1, 2024.
According to the statement, signed by the Chief of Military Public Information Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, recent aerial operations targeted terrorist camps on islets in Cameroonian and Nigerian territories of Lake Chad, resulting in the destruction of the camps and the killing of numerous terrorists. The operation also destroyed 8 vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs) and 2 ammunition bunkers.
In a swift response, Sector 2, supported by the Chadian Rapid Intervention Force, neutralized 70 terrorists and dismantled 5 camps, demonstrating the effectiveness of MNJTF’s operational strategies and the strong collaboration with the Chadian Armed Forces.
The MNJTF commended the Chadian Armed Forces for their invaluable cooperation and support, acknowledging the vital contributions of other troop-contributing countries, including Cameroon, Nigeria, and Niger.
The task force reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating terrorism and restoring peace to the Lake Chad Basin, vowing to continue working tirelessly with its partners to achieve and sustain this critical goal.
