NAF Airstrike Kills Bandits, Foils Attack on Police in Katsina
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has eliminated several bandits in an airstrike at Yauni Hill, Zakka Ward, Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State, thwarting an attack on security personnel.
NAF spokesperson AVM Olusola Akinboyewa confirmed the operation in a statement on Monday, revealing that the airstrike, conducted on Saturday, prevented further assaults on Police Mobile Force (PMF) officers and Katsina State Community Watch Corps members.
The strike was launched following intelligence reports indicating that terrorists had targeted a PMF location, resulting in the deaths of two officers and four vigilantes. The bandits were later traced to Yauni Hill, where they had taken refuge.
“In a swift and decisive response, NAF air assets were deployed for an air interdiction mission. Upon arrival, the targets were identified and engaged,” Akinboyewa stated.
He also addressed reports alleging civilian casualties during the strike, describing them as concerning but unverified. He emphasized that NAF adheres to strict rules of engagement and international operational standards.
Following the allegations, Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar has ordered a thorough investigation to verify the claims and take appropriate action if necessary.
Akinboyewa urged the public to remain calm as investigations proceed, reaffirming NAF’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and the protection of innocent lives.
