The Noella Foundation has donated N100 million relief materials to 2,850 students affected by last September’s flood disasters in the Maiduguri metropolis and Jere Local Council of Borno State. According to the foundation, the flood-affected students are from six institutions of higher learning, including Mohamet College of Agriculture and the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID).
Flagging off the distribution of flood relief on Saturday in Maiduguri, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on student engagement, Comr. Sunday Asefon, stated, “The distributed relief materials are to cushion the devastating effects of last year’s floods on the students from six educational institutions in the state.”
He noted that President Bola Tinubu is committed to youths’ empowerment and other students’ support to complete their education in the various institutions of higher learning in the country.
Highlighting students’ vulnerability to the recent floods, he said that Seyi Tinubu procured the food and non-food items for immediate distribution, stating, “The relief materials could help the students from being distracted by hunger while studying in their respective institutions of higher learning.
The distributed relief materials comprise 1,500 bags and cartons each of rice, tomato paste, and assorted pastas, and 1,000 kegs of cooking oil. Other relief materials distributed by Asefon included 1,000 pieces of women’s wrappers and men’s clothes.
He added that Tinubu has also distributed Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses to students in each of the six geopolitical zones of the country.
The national president of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comr. Sunday Emonefe, urged the flood-affected students to apply for the student loans without any hesitation to complete their studies in various colleges and universities in Borno State.
