PCG, N’Assembly to determine Osinbajo’s presidential aspirations
Tada JUTHA, Maiduguri
Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state has said that the Progressive Consolidation Group (PCG), National Assembly, and stakeholders will determine Yemi Osinbajo presidential aspirations in 2023.
According to him, contending interests in forthcoming presidential primaries and other elections will not stop the All Progressives Congress (APC) from reaching a consensus that could consolidate party unity and progress towards the 2023 polls.
Zulum spoke at the weekend (Friday) while receiving members of PCG led by Dr. Aliyu Rabiu Kurfi at the Government House, Maiduguri.
“Borno State will work with the party’s hierarchy, National Assembly, and stakeholders to actualize decisions to be made by President Muhammadu Buhari,” he said, reiterating that Buhari is the de facto leader of APC.
According to him, there is the need for political “unison and determination” to make Prof. Osinbajo the next President in 2023.
Besides, he added; “I am solidly behind initiatives aimed at enhancing the unity of our party and progress of Nigeria.
“At this political climax of time, no one and nothing will prevent the party from moving in unison for a presidential candidate.”
On Osinbajo’s aspirations and others, he maintained that; “We have to identify the right individuals to lead the nation and the task requires governors, party hierarchy and the President working together in concert.”
He noted that individual aspirations may have to be downplayed, as decisions had to have concurred with the leader of the party.
On his part, he will promote unity in the state to ensure that APC sweeps the 2023 polls across the country.
He said that his major priority was to see how the people of Borno state will flourish in the country’s economic climate.
Responding, Kurfi said that Zulum and other Governors, party leaders at federal, state, and council levels to forge a consensus towards making Prof. Osinbajo the next President.
“The Vice President, Osinbajo deserves the right of first refusal and even, in a crowded race with great individuals,” he said.
He explained that he stands out as an insider with the right level of competence and intellect to do the job better than all others.
According to him, the party leaders should reach a solid consensus on ensuring that Osinbajo becomes Nigeria’s next President in 2023.
He noted that Osinbajo exhibited self-discipline, moral qualities, and competency during President Buhari’s absence to make him the best candidate for the presidential ticket.
Other personalities on the PCG include Musa Liman, Dr. Ebenezer Faji, Shettima Abba-Gana, the group’s women leader, Rabi Dauda, and Emmanuel Pippa, the publicity secretary of PCG.
