Plateau State Commissioner for Lands, Survey, and Town Planning, Barrister Peter Nyam Gai, has set a bold goal to transform the ministry into a ‘special ministry’ within the state.
In a recent address at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Plateau State Council Secretariat, Gai shared his vision and accomplishments, emphasizing his commitment to making the ministry a top revenue generator, second only to the Plateau State Internal Revenue Service.
To foster a conducive atmosphere that enhances staff motivation and improves service delivery, Gai has introduced several initiatives. These include renovations of the town planning block, streamlining the land title processing system, and significantly reducing the time needed to issue certificates of occupancy.
According to him, the ministry is making strides towards modernization by transitioning to an automated Geographic Information System (GIS) platform and implementing a document management system to digitize remaining files.
Under Gai’s stewardship, the ministry has experienced a remarkable rise in revenue, soaring from N173 million between January and September 2023 to nearly N500 million by August 2024.
He reiterated the importance of transparency and accountability, ensuring that all officials within the ministry are prepared to provide a detailed overview of their actions and responsibilities.
Looking to the future, Gai is determined to elevate the ministry’s status, positioning it among the elite revenue-generating entities in Plateau State, just behind the Plateau State Internal Revenue Service.
