The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested four suspects for murder and kidnap in the Sade community of the Darazo local council area.
The arrest of suspects was announced on Sunday, in Bauchi, in a statement of the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil.
According to him, the kidnap incident was reported to the police on March 20, 2024, when Safiyanu Abdullahi reported to the village head, Musa Isah, that his son, Shuaibu (6), was missing from the community. Six hours after reporting the kidnap incident to the police, Isah, the village head, Abdullahi, received a call for the payment of a N3 million ransom. After heated pleas with the kidnappers, the ransom was, however, reduced to 200,000. The SP Wakili stated, “Our detectives from the Darazo Police Division headquarters swiftly launched an investigation into the abduction of the six-year-old child. He said the efforts of the police investigation team led to the arrest of Rabi’u Muhammadu (23) at a Point of Service (POS) location in Leka village the following day. Besides the arrest of the suspect, Muhammadu was also found in possession of the phone and bank account numbers used in demanding the payments of ransom. While interrogating the suspect over the kidnapping, Muhammadu identified Samson Ozoichikel (35), of Sade village, as the mastermind behind the kidnapping of Shuaibu. Wakil further disclosed that Ozoichikel named two other suspects, Muhammad Sani (25) and Musa Usman (30), in the kidnap of the six-year-old boy from Leka village. Meanwhile, the four arrested suspects are in police custody for further investigations before they are prosecuted in a court of law.
