Police Recover fake Foreign Currencies Worth N129.5bn in Kano
The Kano State Police Command has recovered counterfeit foreign currencies amounting to N129.542 billion in its recent anti-crime operations, according to Commissioner of Police Salman Garba.
Addressing journalists at the command’s headquarters in Bompai, Kano, on Tuesday, Garba, represented by the Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, revealed the breakdown of the fake currencies: $3,366,000, CFA51,970,000, and N1,443,000.
He disclosed that from Nov. 25 to Dec. 9, 62 suspects were arrested for various major crimes, with recovered items including stolen properties, hard drugs, dangerous weapons, and counterfeit currencies.
Additional recoveries made during the operations included three tricycles, eight motorcycles, 278 sheep, seven cattle, 10 SIM cards, 15 ATM cards, and 10 mobile phones, among others.
Garba highlighted the command’s multifaceted crime-busting strategies, which have contributed to a safer environment in Kano State.
“Businesses are thriving, residents feel safer in their homes, and the overall sense of security and well-being has significantly improved,” he said.
The commissioner assured residents of the command’s commitment to maintaining peace and security throughout the festive period, emphasizing the measures in place to facilitate safe celebrations and enhanced business activities.
