Taraba Hires 300 Health Workers to Improve Healthcare Services
The Taraba State Government has recruited 300 health workers to enhance service delivery at Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state.
Dr. Tukura Nyigwa, Executive Secretary of Taraba PHCs, disclosed this development to journalists in Jalingo on Sunday.
The recruitment initiative follows a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the state government, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI).
According to Nyigwa, an additional 150 health personnel will soon be recruited to ensure all PHCs are fully operational for improved healthcare services.
“The Taraba Government has successfully recruited 300 health workers to strengthen PHC service delivery. This milestone was achieved through the MOU with GAVI and UNICEF, which focuses on PHC strengthening,” Nyigwa said.
He highlighted that the partnership has significantly boosted vaccination coverage, increasing Penta 3 vaccine rates in hard-to-reach areas from 43% to 80%.
Nyigwa also noted that the MOU has enhanced the capacity of local health personnel and improved maternal and child health outcomes. He credited initiatives like the “Mama to Mama” program, which encourages antenatal care, exclusive breastfeeding, and immunization among rural women, for the progress.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that UNICEF’s Bauchi Field Office recently held a media dialogue in Gombe to update journalists on the PHC strengthening efforts in Gombe and Taraba.
Dr. Nuzhat Rafique, Chief of UNICEF’s Bauchi Field Office, urged journalists to advocate for maternal and child health initiatives to build healthier communities.
