Nigerian Army Troops Avert Disaster in Port Harcourt, Prevent Major Fire Outbreak

In a remarkable display of swift action and coordination, troops from the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army successfully prevented a potentially catastrophic fire outbreak in Port Harcourt today, October 23, 2024.
The incident according to the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, occurred at Rumuokwuta Roundabout when a tanker carrying premium motor spirit lost balance and fell, posing an immediate threat to lives and properties in the surrounding area.
Upon receiving the distress call, Major Almustapha Shawwal Adams, Acting Commanding Officer of the 760 Transport Battalion, sprang into action. He mobilized and led the 6 Division Fire Crew to the scene, working seamlessly with sister agencies to prevent any fire outbreak.
The joint operation, characterized by precision and effectiveness, ensured that all safety and security protocols were strictly observed. The area was swiftly cordoned off, and necessary preventive drills were carried out to prevent any sparks or ignition sources from reaching the spilled fuel.
Thanks to the prompt and professional response of the Nigerian Army and its partners, the situation was brought under control without any loss of life or property.
Major General Jamal Abdussalam, General Officer Commanding, 6 Division, Nigerian Army, commended the troops for their swift and decisive action. He reiterated the Division’s resolve to continue conducting people-centric operations, aligned with the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja’s command philosophy.
“This successful intervention demonstrates our dedication to the safety and well-being of the people of Rivers State and environs,” Major General Abdussalam stated. “We will continue to work tirelessly to prevent disasters and ensure public safety, in collaboration with our sister agencies and stakeholders.”
