YOUR GOOD WORK RESPONSIBLE FOR INCREASE IN OIL PRODUCTION, GOC 6 DIVISION TO TROOPS
The good work you have been doing in the past one year has significantly increased oil production in the Niger Delta Region (NDR). The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Jamal Abdussalam informed troops, while delivering his farewell address at 63 Brigade today, 21 January 2025 in Asaba, Delta State.
The GOC further remarked that he was basically in Asaba to thank them for the good job they have done while he held sway as their GOC. He urged them to continue in that trajectory until 2.3 million barrels per day (bpd) target set by the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) is achieved. He further said that if the target is achieved, the economy will blossom for the common good of all Nigerians.
Major General Abdussalam, while appreciating troops for their resilience, added that at the moment, we are hovering around 1.9 to almost 2 million bpd. This, he said, is significant, urging them to work extra hard for increased oil production. He maintained that without achieving the 2.3 bpd, which is the benchmark for the national budget, it means the FGN will have to borrow to finance the budget, which he said won’t be good for our economic growth and prosperity. He called on troops not to compromise, urging them to remain disciplined and professional in discharging their duties and, above all, protect the cherished image of the NA.
The GOC emphasized that posting is a routine in the NA, adding that as he proceeds to take over his new responsibility, he wish them the very best in 6 Divsion. He, however, cautioned them to ensure their personal and operational security always as well as eschew any form of complicity in illegalities in the NDR. He called on them to accord the incoming GOC the same cooperation they gave him for him to succeed.
Earlier, the Commander, 63 Brigade, Brigadier General Ugochukwu Unachukwu, said his command cannot thank the GOC enough for the fatherly role he has exemplified. He further added that his leadership was indeed a morale booster for all under his command. The Brigade, he said, will remain indebted to the GOC, particularly for his guidance and mentorship. He thanked the GOC and wished him the very best as he proceeds on posting to his new appointment.
Highpoints of the farewell visit were the commissioning of the official residence of the Brigade Commander, and newly constructed dual 471 meters road connected to a round about in 63 Brigade permanent site named Lieutenant General TA Lagbaja drive at Ibuzo. There were also addresses to officers, soldiers, and group photographs.
