2023 Election: Civil Defence allays fears, promises adequate security for voters

In preparation for the 2023 general election, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has organised a 2-day capacity-building and training for all state commandants and the management of the Agency.
The NSCDC in collaboration with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), an organization that promotes democracy, good governance and the rule of law, as well as supporting the security sector reform; organised the training in Abuja.
The training was organised due to rising concerns of Insecurity as the 2023 general election is drawing closer and to ensure the safety of citizens across the nation before, during and after the election.

Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, the Commandant General NSCDC said a code of conduct has been provided for security agents to act in accordance to achieve a free and fair electoral practice, hoping the election will be violence-free.
Speaking on the number o officers to be deployed for the election Audi said “there is speculation that there might be violence, so we’re going to deploy as many as we can.”
“The Civil Defence has a collection of both regular staff and volunteers”
Dr Ahmed said, “The police is the lead agency the national security so we’re working closely together.”
Marija Peran, a resident representative from KAS said that “the NSCDC plays a vital role among the security agencies engaged with securing the elections.”
Marija said the NSCDC, ” has a good reputation amongst citizens. NSCDC enjoys public confidence like hardly any other agency in Nigeria. Not only are they committed to advancing their skill set and delivering quality services constantly”
Addressing the participants, she extolled them saying, “you know the importance of interagency collaboration for the greater good of Nigeria.”
Peran stated that they are aware of the security situation in the country but the security agencies are doing their best to ensure safety.
“The security agencies are very aware that they need to collaborate and coordinate. The good news is they have understood this, and they are doing it and it’s also going to be of benefit to the election
