25-year-old man Arraigned for Alleged N5 Million Visa Fraud in Ibadan
A 25-year-old man, Dokun Ikechukwu, was arraigned on Monday before the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan over allegations of a N5 million visa fraud.
Ikechukwu, whose address was not disclosed, is facing charges of conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretenses, and stealing. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Iyabo Oladoyin, informed the court that the alleged offences occurred in May at Daveymite Travels Ltd in Ibadan.
Oladoyin stated that Ikechukwu and accomplices, who remain at large, allegedly collected N5 million from Abidemi Ojo under the pretext of securing visas to Luxembourg and Dublin, Ireland. However, the defendant failed to deliver on the promise and instead converted the funds for personal use.
The offences contravene Sections 516, 419, and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000, Oladoyin noted.
Magistrate Adebola Adeola granted Ikechukwu bail in the sum of N5 million, with two reliable sureties in like sum.
The case has been adjourned until Jan. 23, 2025, for further hearing.
