40-year-old man in court for allegedly defrauding friend of N1.5 million
A 40-year-old man, Gabriel Simon was arraigned on Thursday in a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding his friend of N1.5 million.
The defendant, who resides at Gbagyi Villa Kaduna, was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating, offences he denied committing.
The prosecution, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the complainant, Leonard Julius who resides at Ungwan Pam’s Kaduna, reported the matter at Ungwan Pama Police Station on Nov. 26.

Leo alleged that sometimes in July, the defendant demanded N1.5m from the complainant on the pretext that he would secure job for the complainant’s two siblings.
He said that the complainant gave the defendant the money but he neither secured the job nor refunded the money to the complainant.
“On Sept. 17, the defendant was arrested and he wrote an undertaking to refund the money before the end of October but he failed to do so,” the prosecutor said.
Leo said that the offences contravened the provisions of sections 327 and 241 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with sureties in like sum and the sureties must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
Emmanuel said the sureties must provide Certificate of Occupancy (CofO), National Identity card or driver’s licence.
He said that if the defendant failed to meet the bail condition, he should be remanded in prison custody.
Emmanuel adjourned the case until Dec. 20, for hearing.
