Adamawa Govt. bans professional hunters in 21 LGA
The Adamawa State Government has banned the operations of the Professional Hunters Association of Nigeria across the 21 local government areas of the state.
The directive ordering the stoppage of the activities of hunters in the state explained that reports of abuse of the rules of engagement and lack of regard to the traditional institution and security agencies by hunters in some of the councils were responsible for the order.

A statement by Humwashi Wunosikou, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, conveying proscription of the group, singled out abuse of the rules of engagement by the hunters in Demsa, Numan, Lamurde, Guyuk and Shelleng local government areas of the state.
“The operations and activities of the association in the five local government areas have become a source of concern and insecurity instead of the security they are fashioned to provide,” the statement said.
Fintiri said the activities of members of the association, if allowed to continue, were capable of causing public disturbance and ordered that the hunters should desist from performing any function on the pretext of providing security to members of the public.

“More worrisome is the fact that the association operates independent of any security organisation in the five local government areas, thereby giving room for suspicion of the motive and intentions, especially that the members operate in uniforms of our security agencies and at odd hours,” the governor explained.
Fintiri, who said the order was to forestall a breakdown of law and order, added that his administration would not allow anybody to take the law into their own hands, or disrespect the security agencies and the traditional institutions.
