The Adamawa Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation Agency (PAWECA), says it will train 2,000 youths in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills in the state.
Hajiya Aishatu Bello, Head of PAWECA, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Monday in Yola.
Bello said the agency had so far trained 1,000 youths while 2,000 others would be trained before the end of first quota of 2022, as part of empowerment initiative by the state government.
“Under the second phase, we are taking graduates of NCE and diploma across the 21 local government areas, and we intend to train them before the end of first quota.
“The essence is for the youths to take advantages of the technology as the world is a global village.
“At the end of the training, they can do business in comfort of their rooms and partner with entrepreneurs that have no knowledge of computer to advertise their products in the world,’’ she said.
She said that Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri had approved for the establishment of five skills acquisition centers, to give the youths opportunity to become self-reliant.
According to her, the centers will be establish in Mayo-Belwa, Numan, Girei, Gombi and Mubi Local Government Areas.
The gesture, she said, would fasttrack social and economic development, sustain peace and reduce poverty in the state.
Bello called on stakeholders and wealthy individuals to partner the agency to complement government efforts to empowering the youth, reduce poverty and enhance wealth creation in the society.
She, therefore, urged religious and traditional leaders to sensitise youths and women on the need to engage in productive activities to become self-reliant.
