Adopt Strategic Training Approach to Prepare Military Leaders – President of US Defence University Stresses

The President of the United States National Defence University (NDU), Lieutenant General Michael T. Plehn, has urged the Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) to adopt a training approach that prepares military leaders for certainty while simultaneously educating them for uncertainty.
General Plehn gave the remarks when he paid a courtesy visit to the Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) in Asokoro, Abuja on Wednesday, 14th February 2024.
During the visit, the President delivered insightful remarks, emphasizing the importance of strategic training and education for military leaders.

He emphasized the significance of self-development, military exercises, and comprehensive training and education programmes in equipping leaders to navigate unpredictable situations effectively.
The President’s emphasis on strategic training resonated with the core mission of AWCN, which is “To produce well-trained, educated and inspired operational-level leaders for the Nigerian Army” capable of addressing the evolving and often unpredictable nature of security threats in the country.
In response to the President’s remarks, the Commandant AWCN, Major General Ishaya Buba Maina, expressed his gratitude for the existing collaborations between AWCN and NDU.
He acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the US NDU in enhancing the knowledge and capabilities of participants in various AWCN programmes and solicited for more collaborations and deepening engagements between the institutions.
