Alex Baena to press assault charges against Real Madrid’s midfielder
By Jennifer S Kuwanta
Alex Baena of Villarreal has chosen to file charges against Fede Valverde of Real Madrid after the Uruguayan midfielder hit him in the face as he boarded the team bus following the two clubs’ April 8 match.
In addition, the event was not mentioned in the referee’s report, and Villarreal has not yet reported it to the Spanish Football Federation. However, the Spanish club announced on Sunday, April 9, that the police will now be involved. This may open the door for the Spanish Anti-Violence Commission to become involved.
On Sunday morning, Baena told regional media that the situation would be resolved without taking any additional action. But he changed his mind and his club have said they will back him in his decision.

‘Villarreal CF player Alex Baena was assaulted yesterday night on his route to the team bus following the match against Real Madrid CF at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium,’ said the statement released by Villarreal on Sunday night.
‘Once again, Villarreal CF rejects any act of violence and firmly believes in the version of its player and will support him throughout this process’.
After Valverde hit Baena as he boarded the Villarreal team bus after Villarreal’s 3-2 victory at the Santiago Bernabeu, the club’s initial response was to defer to their player.
Baena denied asking Valverde to “cry now that your son is not going to be born” during a cup match earlier this year.
It was claimed that the remark was made at a time when Valverde’s wife was in risk of losing their second child.
Baena posted on social media on Sunday morning: ‘Very happy with the team’s impressive victory in a place like the Santiago Bernabeu, but at the same time very sad about the aggression, I suffered after the match and surprised by what is being said about me. IT IS TOTALLY UNTRUE THAT I SAID THAT.’
