Spokesman of OPHK, Col. Ado Isa, in a statement, yesterday (Sunday) in Maiduguri, disclosed that there were series of unsubstantiated reports on some social media and newspapers (not The Guardian) on the abduction of commuters in Borno state.
He said the alleged incident was “false and misleading” with the intention to smear the image of the Army on the ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the Northeast.
Instead, he said the terrorists in some vehicles emerged through the Dole and Bari villages with the intent to mount snap road blocks.
He further disclosed that they were to cause “havoc and apprehension” among commuters in the two villages.
“The troops on mobile patrol within the general area foiled the attempts instantly to protect commuters and villagers,” he said, stating that there was no abduction of any commuter last Saturday.
He noted that it was the imagination of mischief makers who are not happy that peace is gradually returning to the Northeast region.
Troops, according to him, will continue to sustain the safety on roads and other main supply routes to frustrate terrorists’ intentions against commuters.
