According to reports, a section of Gunners fans have urged the club to make a January transfer move for Ronaldo as a cover for Gabriel Jesus, who is set to spend a couple of weeks on the sidelines with an injury.
Despite Ronaldo’s advanced age, some Arsenal supporters contend the Portuguese still has a lot to offer at the top level.
Winterburn warns Arsenal against Ronaldo However, former Arsenal star Winterburn has cautioned the Premier League club against making a transfer move for Ronaldo.
The former left-back argued the Portugal international would find it difficult to fit into the Gunners’ playing system.
“A lot of people might say, ‘That’s great, let’s do it’. I wouldn’t be able to argue with that, but I think the way Arsenal press games, they press high, they’re full of energy, and Ronaldo is an unbelievable player, but I don’t think he has the legs to be able to do that anymore. I’m certain he doesn’t.”
Winterburn believes Arsenal would have to adapt their playing style to bring Ronaldo in, and he feels that would be a complete disaster.
Recall that Arsenal won their first trophy of the season, following their 2-1 epic win over AC Milan in Dubai.
The Gunners have been in flawless form since the start of the season, with the side losing just once so far this term.
The North Londoners have won 12 of their last 14 outings, an impressive run which has them topping the standings with 37 points.
