The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has extended the ongoing strike after it held its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.
According to punchng.com, the decision was reached after the meeting at the union’s headquarters at the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) today.
Ben Goong, the spokesperson for the Federal Ministry of Education, said that the Federal Government (FG) has taken all the necessary measures to end the ongoing strike.

He added that a committee has already been inaugurated to harmonize the payment systems proposed by the university unions. This will ensure that the government pays with only one payment platform that will harmonize all the technical peculiarities.
If 80 percent of the demands have been met there’s no need to drag the strike anymore.
Prolonging the strike is unreasonable seeing that the government has worked towards fulfilling most of the union’s demands, he added.
ASUU embarked on strike on 14th February 2022, and students of public varsities have been forced home for over six months.
