Bauchi communities laud FG for providing solar power
Three communities in Bauchi Local Government Area of Bauchi State have commended the Federal Government for providing solar power street lights in their areas.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the benefitting communities are Kangere, Bishi and Tambari.
The federal government under the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development provided several communities in Bauchi with solar street lights.
Alhaji Shehu Abdullahi, the Village Head of Kangere, on Monday in an interview with NAN expressed gratitude to the federal government for the solar street lights, which he said brighten their communities at night.
“These street lights boost economic activities, enhance productivity for business people operating in the night and lighten up every nook and cranny of the community especially at night.
“More families and businesses now have access to clean, sustainable and reliable electricity from the sun.
“It also provides light for students and improves the security situation in the community,” Abdullahi said.
Mr Shuaibu Danladi, a cleric, said the street lights brighten the church premises, making it possible for them to conduct night activities.
“Both churches and mosques in the community make effective use of the street lights in the night,” he said.
A vulcaniser and a resident of Bishi village, Malam Umar Adamu, said his community benefitted from the solar street lights, and they enjoy it compared with the national grid light.
“We use the street light to do our vulcanising work, no matter how late, if you come and meet us we patch your car or motorcycle.
“We are grateful to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture for this gesture to our community,” he said.
Another community leader in Bishi, Alhaji Umar Musa, also expressed appreciation to the federal government for providing the community with solar lights “that improved the living status of his people”.
He however appealed to the government to also consider giving the street lights to other neighbouring communities.
